Stanners At A Glance
The Stanners, best known for legendary late coach Jack Curran (five city championships in basketball and 22 in baseball during a 55-year coaching career) and NBA guard Kenny Anderson, came within a game under Mike McCleary of ending a 30-year Catholic League championship drought. Molloy was upset by undersized Cardinal Hayes 64-62, despite 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists from star 6-3 JR guard Cole Anthony, the consensus No. 1 point guard in the national Class of 2019 and son of former NBA star Greg Anthony. He exploded for 32 points in the Brooklyn/Queens diocesan final, leading an 80-67 victory over Bishop Loughlin. But Molloy’s national fortunes are significantly enhanced as 7-1 SR center Moses Brown has become one of the top big-man recruits.
