Panthers At A Glance

BALLISLIFE PRESEASON NATIONAL RANKING: No. 13
MAXPREPS RANKING: No. 8

A season-ending, 12-game winning streak and a rampage through Florida’s largest classification to the Panthers’ first state championship (they were runners-up in 2007, ’10 and ’11) came a year ahead of schedule for Coach Ben Witherspoon’s young roster, most of which returns for a highly anticipated encore. Rapidly improving big man 6-10 SR Ernest Udeh, Jr. (9.7 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 1.8 blocks) has seen his recruiting interest explode in recent months, and a productive trio of guards – Florida commit 6-4 SR Denzel Aberdeen (18.7 ppg, 3.6 apg), Mississippi State-bound 6-5 SR Riley Kugel (12.5 ppg, 2.1 steals) and 6-3 SOPH Jordan Tillery – gives Dr. Phillips a lethal inside-outside punch. As a result, the Panthers’ fall workouts attracted coaches from Baylor, Michigan, Kansas, Memphis, UCLA, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma, among others. … Aberdeen erupted for 27 points in the historic 54-46 state-title win over Dwyer, while Udeh was the leading rebounder (8.0 rpg) at the prestigious NBPA Top 100 Camp in July and snagged 25 boards in the Panthers’ two victories at the Final Four. … Recent transfer addition 6-6 SOPH Carter McDole (Montverde Academy FL) adds depth.
