Green Wave At A Glance

A talented young group returns all but two of its players from a team that beat Lehigh 59-56 in overtime to win the 7A-District 11 championship, and likely adds 275-pound, 6-7 SR Cayden Baker, a heavily recruited offensive tackle on the football field. Coach Keeth Jones, who moved over from Cape Coral Mariner after Andrew Grantz’s departure for a college job in Missouri, won a state title at Lake Wales in 2000, led Mariner (as interim coach) to four straight playoff wins and a state runner-up finish in 2017, and now can build around high-scoring 6-0 JR guard Javian McCollum (16.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.6 apg), 5-10 SR Brady Luttrell (11.2 ppg) and 6-5 SR Kyle Riemenschneider (8.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg). A pair of transfers, 6-2 JR Da’Mani Brown (La Plata, Md.) and 6-3 JR Landon Howard (Evangelical Christian) should also help. Baker’s football suitors include Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Purdue, UCF and USF.
