Hawks At A Glance

Hamilton Heights, with only 60 students and roughly a 50-50 local/international split in grades 9-12, nearly closed its doors last spring, but announced three weeks later that it would remain open. Good thing, because two of the Hawks’ top three scorers are elite returners: Future Florida Gator 6-7 SR Samson Ruzhentsev (17.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg), perhaps one of the nation’s top sleepers in his class, and New Mexico commit 6-8 SR Bayron Matos-Garcia (9.8 ppg, 9.8 rpg). Nine of coach Zach Ferrell’s 13 players last season were underclassmen, including 6-7 SR Andersson Garcia (6.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg), 6-7 SR Drew Williams (8.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.3 apg) and promising 6-10 SOPH Felix Okpara, and among the new additions are 6-1 SR Dominiq Penn (19 ppg, 3 rpg at Dublin Coffman OH) and 6-4 SOPH Reggie Bass (12.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.4 apg at Muncie Central, IN). Hamilton Heights has won three of the past four NACA Div. I National Championships in Dayton, Tenn., including two in a row
