Storm At A Glance

Coach Mason Padgett led tiny and previously-unheralded Lake Norman Christian to a 31-2 record and a state title in his first season. Now, the Storm has joined the competitive North Carolina Independent Schools (NCISAA) circuit and created national buzz with the additions of MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year 6-4 SOPH Mikey Williams (29.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 4.9 apg, 1.6 spg at San Ysidro CA) and several other talented transfers. The new arrivals include Army West Point commit 6-8 SR A.J. Allenspach (Simpsonville Hillcrest SC), breakout candidate 6-10 SR Jonathan Kurtas (11.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.7 bpg at Huntersville Southlake Christian NC), once-coveted 6-8 JR Joyful Hawkins, who sat out a transfer year but was the 6A-Region 2 Player of the Year as a freshman at Brunswick (Ga.) in 2018-19, 6-7 JR Shane Fernald (9.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.0 apg at Harrisburg Hickory Ridge NC) and 6-5 JR J.P. Haggarty (19 ppg, 7.8 rpg at Waxhaw Cuthbertson NC). Two talented young guards, 5-10 SOPH Trey Green (14.8 ppg, 3.2 apg, 2.7 rpg at Charlotte Vance NC) and 6-0 SOPH Josh Bullock (7.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.9 spg at Rocky Mount Northern Nash NC) will contribute, as could 6-9 SOPH Riley Allenspach, Clay Robinson and Jalen Chambers. Williams had 98 3-pointers in 32 games last season, setting a CIF San Diego Section record by scoring 77 points in a 116-42 rout of Kearney in the Imperial Valley Tournament and dropping 35+ in a dozen games (50 vs. Mission Bay, 41 vs. El Cajon Valley), including 11 double-doubles and a pair of triple-doubles.
