The Bluegrass State’s most ballyhooed recruit in years – Kentucky commit 6-2 SR Reed Sheppard – makes one last run at a Sweet Sixteen state title.

NATE VALENTINE (75-19 at North Laurel, 185-70 overall) has led the Jaguars to three consecutive 20-plus win finishes, including a school-record 28 wins last season and two 13th Region Championship game appearances. Valentine’s 2021-22 team reached the KHSAA Sweet 16 for just the second time in school history. Previously, Valentine was the head coach at Lexington Christian Academy, guiding the Eagles to three straight 43rd District titles, the 11th Region title game and the school’s first-ever “All A” Classic state championship, in 2018. Valentine joined the prep ranks from Transylvania University, where he was an assistant coach under Brian Lane for nine seasons. The Pioneers qualified for five trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament and won three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championships. Nate and his wife Carrie have two children — Cate (9) and Nate (8).
