The nine-time state champs bring a 47-game winning streak into the new season – and returns much of their size and firepower after a lineup that one Orlando-area coach called “the best OCP team I’ve seen in 10 years” ran the table with an average margin of 25.3 points in 2020-21. Predictably, fast-improving big man 6-9 JR Jayden Hastings (4.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg) has emerged as the Warriors’ top prospect, but Notre Dame commit 6-7 SR Ven Allen Lubin (12.1 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and Ohio University-bound 6-4 SR A.J. Brown (14.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.1 apg) have carried much of the offensive load the past two years. Hastings grabbed nine rebounds and blocked six shots in OCP’s 51-32 state-title win over Impact Christian, after Brown exploded for 29 points in the semifinal, a 71-32 blowout of Grandview Prep. … Coach Treig Burke is 127-21 with four state titles and one runner-up finish in five seasons (a 50-48 OT loss to Tallahassee St. John Paul II in 2019 is the only blemish in Lakeland) since being named the Warriors’ head coach and has been on the staff for all 13 Final Four appearances during a 14-year span. … OCP’s last loss? A 44-42 defeat vs. St. Benedict’s (N.J.) on Dec. 30, 2019.
