Hornets At A Glance

An all-underclass roster continued a proud tradition at Scotlandville, winning its first 20 games and routing St. Augustine 73-53 to win its third consecutive Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Division I title. Coach Carlos Sample has presided over this Bayou dynasty, leading the Hornets to a record 10 straight finals (winning six) at “Marsh Madness” in Lake Charles. Not surprisingly, 6-2 SR Reece Beekman (21.9 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 10.2 apg) had 28 points and nine assists to earn MVP honors, but the Virginia-bound star is hardly Scotlandville’s only threat. Two other guards – 6-2 SR Tai’reon Joseph (19.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg) and 6-0 SR Carvell Teasett (18.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg) – can give Sample three 20-point scorers on any given night, and the Hornets have added 6-1 JR transfer Emareyon McDonald (16 ppg, 7 apg at 2A Red River)
