One of a trio of powerful academies in Arizona, Compass Prep announced its arrival on the national scene by reaching the semifinals of the Grind Session World Championship in March. Program director Pete Kaffey and head coach Ed Gipson return two key building blocks in 6-10 JR Sadraque Nganga (18 ppg, 10 rpg in 14 games) and 6-4 SR TyTy Washington (21 ppg after arriving from Laveen Cesar Chavez), but already has three more important additions in athletic 6-7 SR wing Alden Applewhite (15.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg at Germantown Houston TN), highly-touted UK prospect 6-6 SR Joshua Uduje and 7-0 JR Adrame Diongue from Senegal to go with transfers 6-3 JR Nate Pickens (16.8 ppg at Paradise Honors AZ) and 6-5 JR Mekhi Mason (11.5 ppg at Chandler AZ). Washington enhanced his stock by averaging a league-high 28.1 ppg in the Pangos Best of Arizona League this summer, including a 50-point outburst.
