There might not be a 1-2 punch in the City of Palms better than the Wildcats’ duo of 6-2 SR Isaiah Collier and 6-9 SR Arrinten Page. Coach Larry Thompson’s squad looks to rebound after an overtime loss at eventual Class 6A state champion Grovetown in last season’s quarterfinals.
LARRY THOMPSON begins his sixth season as the Wildcats’ head coach (112-38 at Wheeler, 170-45 overall), having qualified for the state playoffs (round of 16) in all seven seasons as a head coach. He has coached four teams to state titles, including back-to-back GHSA championships at Wheeler (2020-21) and Greenforest Christian (2016-17), and was named Sports Illustrated National Coach of the Year in 2020. A Georgia native, Thompson led Mitchell-Baker HS to back-to-back state titles as a junior and senior (1998-99). A 2004 graduate of the University of South Alabama, he and his wife of nine years (Natashia) have four daughters (Tyana, Nakia, Christen, Sanaa). Thompson has dedicated this and every season to their son, Khalil, whom they lost in a swimming accident in August of this year. #LiveLikeKhalil
