City of Palms Alumn make a statement in NBA Summer league

|

NBA teams that drafted Culligan City of Palms Classic talent this year quickly learned the wisdom of their decisions. Three players who appeared in the City of Palms were named NBA All-Summer League First Team.

Wendell Carter Jr., who went at No. 7 to the Chicago Bulls, Collin Sexton, whom the Cleveland Cavaliers took at No. 8, and Kevin Knox, the pick of the New York Knicks at No. 9, all dazzled in Las Vegas.

Knox looked like the steal of the draft, putting up 21.3 points per game and grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game, just 19 months after playing in the City of Palms Sunshine Series with Tampa Catholic.

Carter gave strong hints that he’ll be double-double threat for the Bulls just as he was for Pace Academy (Atlanta) at the City of Palms, averaging 14.6 points and 9.4 boards per game in Summer League.

Sexton showed the poise he’ll need to follow LeBron James as the leader of the Cavs, drilling several clutch shots against the Lakers late in the Summer League semifinals and averaging 19.6 points per game, evoking memories of his dominance for Pebblebrook (Mableton, Georgia) at the City of Palms.

And lest he be forgotten, No. 1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton made it on the All-Summer League Second Team, building on the impressive resume that includes his appearance in the City of Palms with Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix).
