Mitchell twins look to make a splash

|

They both played at Montverde Academy (Florida) last year. They’re both playing at Woodrow Wilson (District Heights, Maryland) this year. They’ve both committed to play college ball at Maryland starting next year. They both averaged 9.5 rebounds per game in four Nike EYBL outings this summer.

Yes, Makhi and Makhel Mitchell are twins in just about every sense. And soon they’ll add another shared distinction to their growing list when they both take part in the Culligan City of Palms Classic.

Makhi Mitchell is somewhat more highly regarded than his brother, appearing at No. 52 in the Rivals recruiting rankings. Makhel is No. 107, but at 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds, he’s an inch taller and 10 pounds heavier than Makhi, size that could prove important at the next level.

When they get to Maryland, they’ll be reunited with Ricky Lindo, a teammate with travel ball squad DC Premier who’s joining the Terps this year. Lindo finished up at Woodrow Wilson last season and takes credit for recruiting the Mitchells to take his place at the suburban Washington high school.

Lindo and the Mitchells could soon form the starting front line of a Maryland program that has made the NCAA Tournament three out of four years since joining the Big Ten. But before those March dreams become a reality, the Mitchells have a December date in Fort Myers.
