New food for thought

|

A new food vendor will be providing delicious choices during the Culligan City of Palms Basketball Classic at Suncoast Credit Union Arena on the campus of Florida Southwestern State College.

Little Joe’s Special Events Services, based in Cape Coral, will be the host chefs for the entire six-day tournament from Dec. 18-23.

Little Joe’s, established in 1981, specializes in large events, a regular food staple at Cape Coral Bike Nights and the Coconut Festival in Cape Coral and the city’s Holiday Festival of Lights, as well as art festivals.

Mouth-watering choices await tournament fans, from salads to sausage to gyros to corn dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers, kabobs and a Philly Cheese Steak.

“We just liked their variety of food and how they put things together,” said John Naylor, executive director of the Culligan City of Palms Classic.

For the previous 25 years, the tournament enjoyed the food provided by Donny Overholser, whose food choices from Donny O’s Backcourt Cafe were an annual attraction when the tournament was at Bishop Verot High School and then for three years at FSW. Overholser was honored earlier this year by the Fort Myers American and Buckingham Little League All-Stars with a bronze bust for his 50 years of community service to the Fort Myers Rebels Youth Football organization, the Bishop Verot Booster club and Little League baseball and softball.
