Kevin Love is probably most known for his role in bringing the city of Cleveland its first NBA title when the Cavaliers rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to beat the Golden State Warriors for the championship in seven games in 2016. Love also has a significant entry in the Culligan City of Palms Classic record book. No one in tournament history has grabbed more rebounds in a single game than Love. He pulled down 27 boards during the 2005 tournament for Lake Oswega High School against Compton Dominguez.

Love’s record effort led the way in what was the year of the rebounder in the 2005 classic. Tony Davis of Sarasota Riverview had 21 in a game against Reserve Christian. The 21 is tied for fourth all-time. James Tyler of Bradenton IMG had 20 against Cape Coral High School to tie for ninth all-time. Damien James of Nacogdoches and Eloy Vargas of Hollywood Chaminade each had 17 in a game that year to tie for 17th all-time.

Love’s milestone was only the start of a remarkable career for one of the most sought-after high school talents during his career for the Oregon school. He went on to play one season for UCLA, helping the Bruins to a Final Four appearance in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. He was selected fifth overall in the 2008 NBA draft by the Memphis Grizzlies but traded to Minnesota for the third overall selection. He was traded to Cleveland in 2016 to join forces with Lebron James for their title run. The five-time All-Star also helped the U.S. win Olympic Gold in the 2012 Summer Games. Battling injuries for most of last season, Love remains with the Cavaliers amid trade speculation. He has four years remaining on a $120 million contract.
