Despite no City of Palms Classic this year, SWFL still bringing great basketball to the region

|

Hoops fans needn’t worry that the Culligan City of Palms Classic has been cancelled for 2020. Great basketball action is still on its way to Southwest Florida and the Suncoast Credit Union Arena. The Fort Myers Tip-Off Classic is coming to town this week for a two-day feast with some of college basketball’s elite teams. Gonzaga, the nation’s No. 1 team in the AP Preseason Top 25 will make their debut at the Tip-Off Classic along with one of college basketball’s blue bloods, preseason No. 6 Kansas. Alongside SEC power Auburn and mid-major power St. Joseph’s, this field is going to be the best in the brief history of this event.

Due to social distancing guidelines, an extremely limited number of tickets were available for this event, but all of the hoops action will be televised. FOX TV will carry the Fort Myers Tip-Off Classic opener on Nov. 26 at 1:30 p.m. ET, featuring what will arguably be the best early season match-up in college hoops, a top-10 battle between Kansas and Gonzaga. These two teams finished Nos. 1 and 2 respectively in the final AP poll of 2019-2020.

As a nice bonus look forward to seeing 3 former City of Palms players enter back into the arena. Former COP MVP Sharife Cooper, who players for Auburn, Jadrian Tracey playing with Saint Joseph’s University and Andrew Nembhard playing for Gonzaga. Should be exciting to see them face off again now at the next level!

FS1 will then televise Game 2 of the doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. ET, featuring Auburn, fresh off its third straight 25-win season, and St. Joseph’s, which returns its top five scorers from last season.

The second day of the Fort Myers Tip-Off Classic will begin at 11 a.m. ET on Nov. 27 with FOX TV broadcasting the Gonzaga-Auburn game. The showcase will wrap up with Kansas taking on St. Joseph’s at 2 p.m. ET on FS1.
