Mustangs At A Glance
The WCAC is widely considered America’s most talented metropolitan league, and coach Martin Keithline’s group of juniors and sophomores might be its most talented young club. A pair of returning stars, 6-5 JR Qayden Samuels (22.5 ppg) and 6-4 JR Prince-Alexander Moody (12.5 ppg) helped power the Mustangs to a 9-5 conference finish that included wins over national powers St. John’s (68-62 on Jan. 27) and DeMatha (82-78 on Feb. 6), and are Bishop McNamara’s “veterans,” along with transfer guard 5-9 JR Jamyr Coleman (7.2 ppg, 2 apg at Raleigh Enloe NC). … But it’s a quartet of 10th-graders, 6-5 SOPH Jordan Taylor, 6-7 SOPH Jayden Mills, 6-1 SOPH Kirby Dunn and transfer 6-8 SOPH Brendan Woodard (12.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg at Lanham Christian MD), that should give the Mustangs a legitimate chance to contend for their first WCAC title in 30 years. … Samuels averaged 16 ppg and 7 rpg at the Nike Peach Jam in July.
