Don Bosco is “on a mission” in 2023-24, having won its first Bergen County championship, beating Bergen Catholic 71-49, but suffering a six-point upset defeat against the same team in the Non-Public A state playoffs just 10 days later. Coach Kevin Diverio’s squad revolves around MaxPreps first-team Junior All-American 6-4 SR Dylan Harper (24.9 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg) and his big-time basketball pedigree – father Ron was a 15-year pro who won five NBA championships with the Bulls and Lakers, mother Maria (Pizzaro) played at New Orleans in the mid-1990s and older brother Ron, Jr. played in nine games as a rookie for the Raptors. … The supporting cast includes 7-0 SOPH Keiner Asprilla, who posted a 14-point, 14-rebound, five-block game for the 15U New York Rens at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam, and tough point guard 6-0 SR Isaiah Brown. … Harper powered Don Bosco to the John Wall Holiday Invitational title last December with 28 points and seven rebounds in a semifinal win over Corona Centennial (Calif.) and was the second-leading scorer at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam, averaging 21.2 points in six games. He also represented USA Basketball at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Hungary, averaging 9.3 points per game, 4.6 rebounds and three assists in seven games.
