Warhawks At A Glance

A steady four-year climb for coach Steve Page’s senior class, including last season’s 36-win ride to the Sweet 16 semifinals, has led to some pretty high expectations at the 6-year-old school in Scott County, just 15 miles north of Rupp Arena. Much of the buzz centers around Kentucky commit 6-10 SR Malachi Moreno (16 ppg, 13.3 rpg, 3.7 blocks, 2.2 apg). The Warhawks won the prestigious King of the Bluegrass Invitational, lost a double-OT thriller to Bishop O’Connell (Va.) in the Beach Ball Classic final and spent much of the season at or near the top of Kentucky’s one-class state rankings, with headline victories over Little Rock Central (Ark.), St. Louis Chaminade (Mo.) and Lexington (S.C.). … Morehead State-bound 6-5 SR Vince Dawson III, is already the young school’s all-time leading scorer. … Moreno – one of the top rebounders on the 3SSB Circuit during the summer (8.4 per game) – has 1,638 career points, 1,378 rebounds and 461 blocks (including 24 points & 25 boards against O’Connell), while winning 91 of 106 games.
