Coach Elliott Pope’s squad went 2-6 through a challenging December schedule – including games against Huntington Prep and Cannon School, and three apiece at the Alpha Invitational (Kingsport TN) and Chic-Fil-A Classic (Columbia SC) – but turned it around with a 14-game winning streak that propelled the Wildcats to the 5A state semifinals. The catalyst is Texas commit 6-6 SR Cameron Scott (19.2 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 2.8 apg, 2.4 steals), who holds the school scoring record with 1,876 career points and will team with two other returning starters, 6-6 SR Jaxon Prunty and 6-2 JR Kaleb Evans. Scott, who earned All-State honors as an eighth-grader, led his team in every statistical category last season, shooting 64.2 percent from inside the arc, 34.4 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the free throw line.
