BALLISLIFE “FAB 50” RANKING: 14 (Midwest Region)

It was a record-setting season for the tiny school from rural western Kentucky, as 6-1 SR Travis Perry (31.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg) – who made a surprise commitment to the University of Kentucky on Nov. 12 – became the Bluegrass State’s all-time career scoring leader with 4,359 points, breaking King Kelly Coleman’s hallowed record (4,337 at Wayland). But coach Ryan Perry (Travis’ father) returns his top six scorers and 11 of 14 overall, including Tennessee-Martin recruit 6-6 JR Brady Shoulders (17.9 ppg, 11.1 rpg) and 6-3 JR Jack Reddick (18.8 ppg), 6-2 SOPH Bray Kirk (6.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg). … Perry established a new school record when he exploded for 61 points on 24-of-37 shooting (8-of-18 on 3s) in a 114-56 rout at Dawson Springs on Feb. 16, with UK coach John Calipari in the crowd. Already a varsity starter with 638 points as a seventh-grader and 852 a year later, Perry poured in a career-best 1,168 points last season as a junior, powering the Lyons to their second consecutive 2nd Region title after a 71-year drought. Nine days later, Perry scored 23 points in a 61-46 win over Newport in the Sweet Sixteen, breaking Coleman’s 67-year-old standard with a free throw late in the game. Lyon County will play Floyd Central in Wayland’s historic gym (the school closed in 1972) on Dec. 16. … Both of Perry’s parents graduated from UK. … Perry, Shoulders and Reddick combined for 85 points in the Lyons’ 95 in a 95-79 victory over Holy Cross on Dec. 27. The trio has played together since the second grade in Eddyville (pop. 2,283).
