Coach Ty Amundsen’s talented young team was one of the breakout stories at this summer’s Section 7 NCAA Live period event, with 6-7 SOPH Cameron Holmes (16.3 ppg, 6 rpg, 6 apg as a freshman), 6-6 JR Kingston Tosi and transfer 6-3 SR Sabien Cain (20.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg at Carmel University High IN) – headed to Cal State-Northridge in the Big West – forming a new “Big Three” that makes Millennium an immediate contender for Arizona’s prestigious Open Division championship. … The Tigers have reached the Class 5A state title game three times since 2018, but have yet to break through, falling to Gilbert Campo Verde 61-48 last spring. … Holmes, who led arguably the most heralded wave of freshmen in Arizona hoops history, exploded for 37 points, nine rebounds and six assists in a first-round, Open Division overtime win over Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor.
