Rams At A Glance

Owasso becomes the first team from Oklahoma to participate in a City of Palms Classic since Tulsa rival Booker T. Washington in 1990, and with good reason. Coach Brian Montonati’s son, 6-6 JR Jalen Montonati (23.6 ppg, 5 rpg, 2 apg), quickly established himself as a high-major recruit with a knack for the dramatic as the Rams earned their first-ever state championship, and makes for quite a trio with Saint Louis commit 6-11 SR Jax Kerr (12 ppg, 8 rpg, 2.5 blocks) and 6-1 JR Boden Williams (12 ppg, 4 rpg, 4 apg). He dropped 33 points in the title game, including a corner 3-pointer that gave Owasso the lead for good, as the Rams avenged a regular-season loss to Edmond North 57-53 in overtime. … Transfer guard 5-11 SR Kobe Freeman (25 ppg at Purcell OK) has a 50-point game on his resume, but can also be lethal on this roster as a passer. … Montonati also sank three treys in the final 36.7 seconds of Owasso’s 60-57 win over 2A power Dale in the Tulsa Tournament of Champions semifinals, capping a 40-point performance in front of more than 5,000 fans, and was the ninth-leading scorer (17.2 ppg) at the Nike Peach Jam in July. … Kerr dominated with 21 points and 12 rebounds in Owasso’s 53-43 state semifinal win over Broken Arrow.
