Don’t let veteran head coach Jim Martin (663-147 in 26 seasons at Providence, with four state titles) fool you into believing this is an “under-the-radar” team. Not when you consider the Stallions’ unmatched chemistry and coaching – not to mention their unbeaten record in winter, spring, summer and fall when Furman-bound 6-8 SR Nolan Nelson (13.5 ppg, 10.9 rpg) is on the roster. He departed for SPIRE Academy last fall, but returned for the last 13 games as Providence won its final 17 to give Jacksonville its first state championship in a decade. Returning scoring guard 6-3 JR William Stewart (14.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg) is a major sleeper in the 2028 recruiting class, and 6-2 SR Ryan Gornto (12.1 ppg) is headed for Div. II St. Leo. …Nelson had 18 points and 13 boards in a 51-43 win over Miami Country Day in the Class 2A title game.
