Northeast Ohio’s latest small-school dynasty brings a 49-game winning streak – the nation’s second-longest active run – and back-to-back Division IV state titles into the 2023-24 season, scoring an amazing 35 unanswered points to open the second half of a record-setting, 70-26 win over Convoy Crestview. Coach Quentin Rogers (135-25 career) returns his entire starting lineup and 11 of 12 players from a team that averaged 82 points per game and beat five of the state’s top Division I powers, and now has added an elite transfer power forward in 6-8 SOPH T.J. Crumble (Div. III state champion Cleveland Lutheran East). The Spartans are led by 6-5 JR Dorian Jones (21.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 3.0 steals), the state’s Division IV Player of the Year. But 6-4 SR Hosea Steele (15.7 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 4.9 apg), 6-2 JR Demarris Winters, Jr. (14.5 ppg, 75 threes) and 6-5 SR Jeremy Wilson (12.4 ppg, 9.2 rpg) can shoot it from anywhere, and 5-11 JR De’Erick Barber (8.8 apg, 3.9 steals) is content to run the offense. … The 44-point title rout marked the largest margin of any state-title game in the 101-year history of the OHSAA. Jones poured in 25 points (seven 3s). … Crumble, who had a 30-point game as a freshman, came up big in the Division III state semifinals with 23 points and eight boards against Harvest Prep.
