HEAD COACH: B.J. Ivey (941-224-9378) … EMAIL: bjivey15@gmail.com
Sarasota’s original public high school has compiled a 98-19 record during coach B.J. Ivey’s four seasons and nearly ended Miami Columbus’ dynasty in a 53-50 loss in the 7A final at UNF – the Sailors’ first title-game appearance in the 104-year history of the FHSAA playoffs. Ivey returns most of that group, led by Illinois State commit 6-0 SR Johnny Lackaff (23.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.1 apg), 6-3 SR Isaiah Jenkins (8.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.8 apg) and 6-5 JR Greg Dauer (9.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg). Lackaff returned from a nine-game absence in January and promptly dropped 35 points against rival Booker, then torched Columbus for 27 (including five 3-pointers) in the state-title game. An X-factor will be the maturation of 6-6 SOPH Liam Lackaff (4.1 ppg, 2.2 rpg). … Ivey’s teams at Riverview were 173-53 and won six district titles from 2010-19, falling to Coral Springs 61-57 in the Class 8A state-title game in 2016.
